It is lousy but probably better for them than Latrobe.

A much more detailed article here:

Latrobe-based Kennametal to move headquarters to Pittsburgh | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Quote:
The chairman of Latrobe industrial toolmaker Kennametal said Friday that the company is optimistic it can build a new global headquarters in Pittsburgh, but noted it is looking at locations in other states as well.

While Kennametal seeks a site for its new base, the company plans to relocate some of its headquarters staff from its longtime Westmoreland County home to offices in the U.S. Steel Tower, Downtown.
The steel building relocation is only temporary while they find a good site for their new HQ. They are also considering Charlotte and Cleveland in addition to Pittsburgh.

Cool stuff. One of my buddies is a young, budding engineer who just graduated college and got a job with Kennametal as an engineer. Dude makes like $67k. That's stupid money for a 22 year old in Pittsburgh.

Met someone at the airshow from Ireland who was doing an internship at Kennalmetal. He loved it and was thrilled for the opportunity. But I think having him downtown Pittsburgh would have been so much better than Latrobe.

Interesting. Class A office space opens up downtown, and then gets quickly filled.

They've only signed a three-year lease in the US Steel Building. They're obviously still figuring out where they want to permanently move their HQ.

Interesting that there's a small chance they might partially move out of the area after opening a new headquarters Downtown.

Who says the chance is "small"?

What's more interesting is that they want to get the headquarters moved so quickly that they've signed a short-term lease in Pittsburgh rather than moving to what will be their permanent location. This might ultimately be it, but they've obviously not made the final decision.
