Spoken like someone who knows nothing about Westmoreland county, or Jeannette except its racial makeup. Its significantly less crime than in White Oak, let alone dozens of places in Westmoreland county.

Westmoreland County+ White Oak (some are on the border so could be neighboring like Blairsville)

(higher means more crime)
Jeannette 52.4
Derry 60.9
Mt. Pleasant 62.4

WHITE OAK 82.7

White Oak and Jeanette have similar racial makeups, genius. And the reason I put it in quotes is because roughest in Westmoreland county doesn't mean much.

Personally, I'd chose White Oak over McKeesport. It's a cute little town, I have friends & coworkers there & they are all happy with the area.

Liberty & Lincoln are also good--they use South Allegheny Sch Dist

Elizabeth Township also has several distinct sections, from sleepy town borough like, to rural-it's just over the Boston Bridge from Versailles. (Boston, Greenock, Buena Vista etc)
You can find something in your price range & the PLUS is that it doesn't use McKeesport Sch District.
It is very separate from McKeesport, Versailles is in-between, as well as the Yough river. So you are separated by a nice town & also a river/bridge.

They align with Forward Twsp to form Elizabeth Forward Sch Dist.

You can't really go by various online sources for looking for property in Elizabeth township, because it isn't clearly/properly listed--part of it shares a post office with McKeesport-so it has a McKeesport zipcode for mailing purposes only.
15135 is the zipcode for the area I am talking about--this is the zipcode for Boston, Mt Vernon & the surrounding areas of Elizabeth township on that side of Eliz twsp.(yough side)
It's my experience that real estate agents just call it 'mckeesport' in their ads.
If you're not a local, you'd not know the distinction.
Also, most people confuse Elizabeth Twsp with Elizabeth Borough, Elizabeth borough is in Forward Twsp, & borders the Mon River. While close & they share a school district, it is not the same town.

If you haven't had a chance to drive over the Boston bridge-I suggest a trip over to check it out.

If you like to fish/hike/bike/kayak/boat &/or enjoy nature-it has it all-just a few minutes from White Oak.

Zipcodes for Elizabeth Twsp--you can google map these to get the borders
