OPs plan would probably be fine for a daily commute, where occasionally being a few minutes late goes unnoticed or is acceptable, but for a job interview I think OP should shoot to arrive downtown with more than 30 minutes to spare. Worst case scenario is that OP ends up in downtown with 60 or 90 minutes to calm down and prepare at a coffee shop, no big deal. That's much better than the alternative of being late or arriving just on time but still stressed from getting there and not having time to grab a drink or hit the restroom.
