I haven't seen any recent posts about Greensburg. Left 30 years ago and thinking about returning. Have 2 young sons and I enjoyed growing up there and thought they might too.

Any insights on the direction Greensburg is going. Looks like they are getting historic districts and working on the downtown. How about jobs?

Please unless you think the crime is really, really bad don't offer info about that. I lived in DC, outside of Boston and now Kansas City were we have a murder about every 3 days. I can't believe Greensburg could be that bad.

Thinking about opening a bed and breakfast in one of the mini mansions along West Pittsburgh Street.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks so much

While I don't know much about the job situation in Greensburg, my parents live there and I am frequently there to visit. The city and area as a whole seem to be doing quite well. The downtown area is doing well, they just replaced all the overhead power lines and utility poles with underground wires, decorative lighting and new, nicer sidewalks. Retail seems to be doing well also as the Greengate plaza took off like crazy, and Westmoreland Mall is still doing well. The area's schools are great, I believe Greensburg Salem and Hempfield both got a 9/10 from Greatschools.com. I'm 25, I grew up there also and it was definitely a nice little town to grow up in.

If I were going to open up a Bed and Breakfast, I'd look into North Main Street, there are some fantastic houses in that area right before you leave town.

Here's a great example of a huge house on North Main. This one even comes with a second house!

kimmiequeen: Like you, I've been gone from the Greensburg area for a long time. In my case, it's been 40 years. I see you lived in D. C. for a while. I was a cop there for just over 20 years. I wish you the best on opening a B & B in Greensburg. I really miss the area and cannot wait to get back.
