Parking is already difficult there, spaces will be eliminated. The area around Carson St is already a residential permit zone, where visitors can't park.

You're the first one, as typical, to mention "suburbanites complaining about losing free parking".
Not one poster before you in this thread complained about having to pay for parking - they complained about the loss of parking spaces.

Fortunately I'm not a suburbanite & unlike yourself I actually live in the south side & can tell you everyone here is really p*ssed about the announcement. Heck it will make it near impossible to have something simple like a bunch of people over to my house.

But to address your actual as usual insightful posts, free parking wasn't the issue its parking in general & yes, plenty of suburbanite do indeed come to the south side to spend their money (in addition to city dwellers who actually use their vehicles); not to mention employees of businesses here that likewise require parking to go to work.

Wait aren’t they only getting rid of parking on a few blocks of Carson? You can still have people over, they simply have to plug the meter till midnight, which they can now do from their phone!!

Meters on Carson are limited to 2 hours of use. The residential permit parking they put in is useless as well as enforcement hours are terrible times to do anything more then cost you $20 with 0 benefit.

Why is there this notion that nobody who lives IN the city drives anywhere? I live in Polish Hill, which is within walking distance of Downtown and Oakland, yet almost everyone I know here, sans our upstairs neighbor who carpools with us for weekend errands, has a vehicle. During church services and special events at Gooski's I have to park blocks away when returning from work.

City residents DO drive. They just drive less overall than suburbanites. Even then someone living in Dormont who uses the "T" for work may drive less than someone who lives in New Homestead or Swisshelm Park IN the city.

I certainly don't have that notion as I have friends and family throughout the city and they all have at least 1 vehicle.

While there are some here that don't drive or own a vehicle or think everyone bikes, walks, or uses public transportation, I don't know anyone personally, who partakes in that city lifestyle.

My car is 3.5 years old and has 7200 miles on it. I live outside the city.

Regarding this 'study', why was it worth $300K?

I don't know when you got there, but since I lived there in 1995 there is a whole lot that has left and not much left of interest... St. Elmo's Books, EllJays, Randy's Slacker (not the pale imitation that remains), E-House, Groovy!, the Carson st. deli, the Rex when you could see movies there, a three-storefront-wide-Beehive, Brew House, Lascaux Gallery, City Books, Riverrun Books, Lafond Gallery, Le Pommier, the Pickle Barrel... I could go on and on. All gone.

Sure, I get it... you're a newcomer. But you have no idea how much of a concentration of quality storefronts used to line that stretch... I guess there is a handful of indie survivors holding on. But that neighborhood took a turn for the worse in the 90's when it became the playground for the South Hills weekend warriors. Perhaps it's come back a bit over the last few years, but I'm not aware of much happening besides bar-hopping and a handful of decent restaurants. Put perhaps your thing is the Southside Works... so you love it.

There's still quite a bit there, not counting the Works, other than just bars. You should check it out sometime.
