Hey!

Second thread on here, my previous was regarding Pittsburgh in 75 for writing purposes but this one is more just more me being curious.

What are some famous true crimes that have happened in the city among us locals.

For example some of my family helped the search party look for a missing little girl named Beth Lynn Barr in 77.

Kidnap-Murder Case Still 'Not A Lost Cause

Tragic that happened but it brought to mind this thread.

So what are some our famous local crazy, creepy, bizzare or weird true crime events that have happened? It can be from any time or anything just as long as it happened here or the surrounding area.

Of course let us all remember that the worst crimes are of course horrible such as the above, shouldn't be glamorized so let us be respectful if any of the worst of the worst get mentioned.

If you are on Facebook, search the Odd, mysterious, and fascinating history of Pittsburgh. Really good one about a house of horrors in Bellevue.

Kate Soffel & The Biddle Brothers, 1902 - HistoricalCrimeDetective.com

Very famous, was "Crime of the Century" for a while several generations ago, and was made into a Mel Gibson movie in the 80s.

The story goes that the Warden's wife was in love with one of the brothers and helped break them out of prison. Very interesting story.

As an aside, the building where the warden and his wife lived (I believe I'm getting that part of the story right) still exists as the Shiloh Grill on the corner of Shiloh and Grandview on Mt Washington.

How about the Triple 6 Fix of 4/24/1980?

Bowling kingpin Nick Perry fixed the drawing of the daily number at the Channel 4 studios in Wilkinsburg.

He would have gotten away with it, too, but the number he picked pointed the finger right at himself.

Mr. Perry's real name was Nicholas Katsafanas, and in the Pittsburgh White Pages, his name was on page 666.

They filled the 6 and 4 numbered Ping-Pong balls with paint. Had a 4 been pulled instead of all 6's it may have worked. If you ever see the video of the drawing it's pretty funny watching the 4's and 6's barely moving. I knew Nick on a personal level while a member at the PAA years ago. He was a nice guy, don't know what made him do it, but he served hard time for it.

Stanley Hoss was a famous case.

Also, this murder in Arnold remains unsolved.

The Westwood murder in McKees Rocks (1930s). That was a big scandal back in the day.

One of my personal favorites was this story from McKees Rocks in the early 1900's. The houses where the murder happened are still standing.
