I think it is fair to say that the South Side is currently one of Pittsburgh's top success stories. It is really a model of the "new urbanism" style of development, with housing, retail, cultural institutions, and employment all within close proximity of each other and connected by public transit (and often walkable).
Personally, I am a big believer in the long term viability of the new urbanism movement, and the recent trend toward "green" development and lifestyles is only making me more bullish about its prospects. Of course, I can't make any guarantees about the future of the economy or the viability of your business model, and certainly the South Side is going to be a competitive place precisely because of its attractions. But if you are confident in your ability to compete, then I think the South Side would be one of the most exciting places in Pittsburgh to be locating a business.

Um you are forgetting an entire coalition of students that easily surpass PITT or CMU activity in the Southside.
Duquesne student's pretty much own the Southside. We can walk to school from there and HUNDREDS do (I did for 2 years)!

They're there mostly to get drunk, not to frequent boutiques, though.

No offense, but I don't really see too many "hot" people in Pittsburgh.
Girls or Boys, fashion and body shape are not top priorities for the population.
(Not the gay guys, most of you are the ONLY ones in Pittsburgh who are actually good looking!)
Sorry.............
