That is the reason I moved here. He is a CA boy growing up in Long Beach and there was NO WAY he was going to move to the East Coast to live. I miss downtown Pgh and so do my kids, although they have taken to the CA lifestyle and wouldn't want to move back.
This is interesting. The hubby thinks CA the best, because it's where he grew up. This is the case for a lot of us. My kids, the Colorado natives, are very bonded to CO, moreso than DH and I, though DH grew up thinking it was "the promised land". They like snow on Halloween and 100 degrees in July. I, who grew up in Pittsburgh, not so much. You like what you get used to, in large part.

I guess one becomes programed while growing up.

Can you see yourself back in Beaver Falls? I know I couldn't do Cranberry -- too urban for me! After I drove past the umpteenth bank and drug store strip mall I'd go postal!

But I can see myself back there... I've been delving so far more into the genealogy of our families and ALL of it is back there -- hubbies in Ohio/PA border and mine in the Bedford and Somerset Counties -- you know, "Pennsyl-tucky"?

I have a strong lead on Brent being related to President McKinley. But they are all secondary sources.

Nothing like that in my side -- we do have some skeletons though.... and no one knows what they are....but when your grandmother and her brother are being raised by two separate families and not by their parents.... and years later when you ask their children (my parents and uncles and aunts) who their grandparents are and NONE of their kids know their grandparents names??

Something hinkey there....

But after a hundred or so years who will care about it? Oh, yeah -- my sister -- who won't want me to talk about it, what ever it is.... For a hippie from the 60's, she's really uptight.

No, not really. It was a neat little city when I lived there, now a ghost town with people in it.

But, . . . I do like the cooler summers there, and I really miss the gorgeous autumns. When we first came out here, I missed fall a lot, and made fun of the Aspen in the mountains, now, I'm like, "it's not much, but it's all we've got". One also, for better or worse, gets used to the culture of a place and the way things are done. Sometimes it's hard to get used to something that is just as good but different. There's a lot I don't miss, which I won't go into. Been over that ground too many times on this forum. Plus, DH says he refuses to look for another job again (too many layoffs).

Always enjoy your posts, especially about the geneology. I still have yet to get to the Mormon Church 1/4 mile away. Maybe when my daughter goes back to college. . . .

I know what you mean about fall -- We have these gawd-awful trees out here called liquid amber -- I suppose because they drip sticky sap constantly -- and they develop huge nasty spiky seed pod balls I call ankle busters -- but in the fall -- color to rival home.... and while there aren't many out here when you find them the scarlets and yellows are just breathtaking.

Well I left the Burgh in 94 and missed it before I was out of town. I knew what I was getting into. I thought I'd be but five hours a way in Detroit but am now a thousand miles away in Northern Minnesota. Life here is perfect I live in a small town, 650 or so population. Nature all around it is paradise.

I will enjoy it all I can as someday I'll return to Pittsburgh. No other big city is worth the effort, Pittsburgh is right there in the middle of East Coast Mentality meshed with a Mid West attitude. It's a perfect blend of the two. I'll be back....

Hopefully, you can come back some day. It must have been a real adjustment to live in a town that small. Did you move because that's where your wife or girlfriend wanted to be?

Country_Girl_23 is on a distinguished road
You are right about Fall, Oh it is so beautiful when all the gorgeous colors brightened the city. I can not wait to do a trip to Amish country in Sugarcreek Ohio in October during my birthday. So beautiful with great country scenery.

The moves, all of them were work related. In Pittsburgh, my job was eliminated and I had the choice of taking a severence package and going in another direction or transfer to another data center. I had family in Michigan, so we chose to go there. We lived on Harsen's Island for the first half a year and then found a Duplex in Shelby Township. Nice area. Then Corporate HQ in Milwaukee asked me to come over, so we looked at the options, visited the area and decided to make the move. There would simply be more oportunity there, and security (I thought). After 18 years my position was out-sourced to India. Thanks Fiserv! What a sweet heart company. After 18 dedicated years where I picked up and moved the family to turn thier backs, oh they were RUDE.

For two months I toiled with Job Search 9 hours a day. Making application after application. I got contact offers to go off to Seattle but with no guarantee of extension. I tried to find work in Pittsburgh and did get some interest. Still no offers with re-location assistance was coming. Then I found my current employer, CrossUSA. They are the alternative to Off Shore outsouceing. We live and work in rural USA, make market wages which are on the low side, since the cost of living here is through the floor low. I still make more than anyone else in the neighborhood. But I get to live in small town in an area where folks come to get away from the Rat Race.

Low stress, no crime - little traffic to speak of. It's perfect here. I would choose to come here and it's a GREAT place to raise a family. I think we will remain until our son is out of school. Then maybe look at a return to Pittsburgh. My family has all moved away from the burgh, but my wife's is all still there.
