No, I thought I remembered him saying specifically in regards to economic issues that he leans to the right.

In case anyone cares: Due to the "strike", I checked the Uber app several times over the weekend at various times of the day and there was never a shortage of cars in and around the city.

Guess Uber has the amount they are paying right then. Plenty of slave labor around here I guess. Maybe they should drop it another dime, to increase the bottom line for the CEO and his friends. It is the American way,

It sounds like you've been quite affected by others getting more...but I certainly wouldn't call what's leftover as slave labor...and nobody is forcing anyone to drive for Uber.

Sounds like a perfectly efficient market to me

So with the latest rate drop, at least in Pittsburgh, Uber started guaranteeing hourly rates for their drivers. There are caveats that you must accept 90% of the fares you are offered and that you must make 1 trip/hour (1.5 trips/hour at highest guarantee times). From their weekly email:

"Whenever you are online during the times below, you will earn the higher of: (A) total fares less the Safe Rides Fee or (B) the guarantee amounts listed below.
Time Period Friday Saturday Mon-Wed
3am-7am $12/hr $12/hr $12/hr
7am-9am $12/hr $12/hr $18/hr
9am-noon $12/hr $12/hr $12/hr
noon-5pm $12/hr $12/hr $12/hr
5pm-9pm $18/hr $18/hr $12/hr
9pm-1am $18/hr $32/hr $12/hr
1am-3am $32/hr $35/hr $12/hr

Time Period Sunday
4pm-7pm $18/hr
9pm-12am $20/hr
All Other Times $12/hr"

The $32 and $35 rates are only for UberXL drivers (vehicles with a 3rd row seat). This past weekend the guarantees were even higher (not sure if this was because of Valentine's Day and/or because of the strike threat). I make a few extra dollars a week driving for them. I primarily drive late night on weekends, so I hit the best surges and highest guaranteed rates. At those times I rarely have to wait more than a minute between fares. I enjoy driving and for now it still seems to be worth it financially.

When I was in school I volunteered for a safe ride service at our school, it only lasted for one trip. The first kid puked all over my car. You can keep the late night rides. I have never had another drunk person in my car again.

Yeah, the thought of dealing with someone puking in my car is a huge deterrent for me as well, not to mention not being patient when dealing with belligerent drunks. You also have the case of the other day with the Uber driver being mugged and going to the casino for help.

It happened at 2 am. Delivery drivers also get mugged. Don't Uber drive beyond 9pm. Issue should be solved.
