My definition:

Sidewalks, greenspace and business destinations. No highways to cross or walk beside. The ability to take a bus most of the way home if you walk too far or end up tired.

I live in the East Lib / Highland Park area.

I like that I can walk to:

Bank, grocery store, small market, a few coffee shops, a number of bars & restaurants, schools, park & playground. Also, there are art spaces, churches, Target, Home Depot, the busway, performance theater, bike shops. There aren't many clothing retail shops, a movie theater, my PCP or Dentist and a few other things. Walking to other neighborhoods is also easy and getting easier. Shadyside, Garfield, Lawrenceville are walkable from here.
