The following is an article that appeared in the Trib on the 21st of April 2016. I believe it is beneficial to one's life and planning to stay informed and use information and ideas of all types. Since this forum frequently focuses on the State of Pittsburgh and its future and its citizens, I thought this piece might be helpful, to some, as it does indeed touch on many of the individual topics that have been bantered about in the past, on this site.

Job growth in Western Pa. stagnates while rest of country surges

Southwestern PA Employment

Western Pennsylvania's job market has stagnated since 2012 while the rest of the nation surged. But this area is not economically depressed. Wages and economic output in the seven-county region have either kept pace with or exceeded national averages

Jordan Grimm is figuring out his escape plan.
His prison: Fayette County, where he grew up and still lives. Jobs are scarce. The population is old and getting older. The county has one of the highest poverty levels in the state. Some longtime residents derisively liken it to a war-torn nation, bestowing it with the moniker “Fayette-nam.”

Connellsville and Fayette county are in the MSA. That's probably relevant enough.

"Don't live in Fayette County if you don't want to" seems like good advice. Also, I feel like I owe an "I told you so" to some people about the fracking jobs not lasting long enough to do any good.

It is relevant to Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is more than just mentioned in the article. It is referenced several times. It is information that a Pittsburgher may want to consider if they like a broader perspective for their own consumption. Reading the entire article appears to tie a few topics together that may clarify thoughts or ideas for some. Why should we be afraid of perspective?

Can we really compare Fayette County to Allegheny though, which is home to an anchor city and almost ten times the population? Fayette County has been in the dumps for at least 30 years, this is nothing new there. The article barley had any mention of anything going on in Allegheny County, which is the main driver of this area anyway. Is Mr. Grimm even going to any school whether it be trade school or a university to improve his skills in something? This is 2016, you're not going anywhere beyond $10-12 an hour with nothing but a high school diploma no matter where you live. How will moving solve your economic problems if you have no real skills?

No business in this age is going to move somewhere that only 10% of people have a Bachelor's degree, sorry.

Maybe there should be a separate forum for "Southwestern PA copyright violations."

Guide to increasing one's economic outlook:
Step one: don't live in Connellsville

This article directly mentions Uber and their troubles hiring people to work in Pittsburgh as it relates to NYC or SF, which is one of the more active threads at the moment.

How in the world is this not relevant to this forum?

This thread is a perfect representation of Pittsburgh the Lone Wolf vs other US cities. Where other US cities grow by coordinating with surrounding communities, Pittsburgh wants to stand alone. Heck, most of the city residents won't even acknowledge Allegheny County. There are posts about moving a Fayette County/SWPA thread to the General PA forum? It's not difficult to see why public transit is stagnant. NYC, Philly, Boston all have regional systems.

The obvious solution, and one which I have long supported, is to make a city-county like Philadelphia. Not that will help Fayette. They really should focus on the hiking/boating/cycling. It's very nice up there.
