We went to the fireworks last year and had a lot of fun, but getting out of the parking lot (we parked in one of the lots between Heinz field and PNC park) took well over an hour. Where are the best places to park/watch?

We've walked from Polish Hill up to Frank Curto Park along Bigelow. If you get there early enough you can get a great view that's not obscured by trees. You can drive right up, and since you want to get back to Squirrel Hill afterwards that puts you right back onto Bigelow inbound where you can grab the ramp to 376 East.

They haven't set fireworks off from the point in years (IIRC the Pittsburgh 250 celebration in 2008 was the last time), yet tens of thousands of people still come up to Mt. Washington only to have their views blocked by the buildings in downtown. There are only a few blocks in Duquesne Heights past the restaurants where you can actually see anything (and need to show up at 1pm to have a view), yet people by the droves still flock to the section of Mt. Washington between McArdle and the Mon Incline year after year.

It was pretty cool when you could see the Fireworks, but those days are long gone, yet the people still show up only to be disappointed.
