Yes, but I don't think people anywhere go to the shore EVERY weekend (unless they live there).
I've never been to Kennywood, but from what I've read it's a good park and hasn't become one of those corporate amusement parks.

In Nyc we do.
I am in Carson City NV at the moment and I live near Lake Tahoe...and that is where most people go on the weekends in the winter and summer

Going to the shore every weekend would get very boring eventually IMO, but to each his/her own.

There are a load of parties in the Hampton's. It's kind of like most of the NYC residents go to get away from the concrete jungle. The City is naked on the weekends. Mainly tourists.

This is usually where I chime in with McConnell's Mills -- it's a state park north of Pittsburgh in Lawrence County. It's gorgeous with some great hiking -- easy and hard... and some great places to hang out with picnic grounds.
But I think what you're looking for is something Pittsburgh doesn't really have. Most people (at least in my experience) stay home on the weekends, have family barbecues and hang out. There's not a social scene like the Hamptons, that I'm aware of.

Would you believe that was my FIRST date ever Tallysmom? At McConnell's Mills. I slipped on a rock in a creek and hit my head, I was lucky I didn't get a lot more hurt than I did. It was just a bump on the head.
How embarrassing.................. LOL.

When I was a kid, a lot of people went to L. Erie for the weekend. Not my family, though. Was more like Tallysmom describes.

Laurel Highlands and Chautauqua Institute
Nemacolin, Seven Springs and Hidden Valley are all beautiful places about 1-1.5 hours South of Pittsburgh. They are in the Laurel Highlands, so it is cooler up there and the nature, golf, swimming, hiking, etc. is great.
I have also heard that Chautauqua Institute is charming in the Summer. It is very 19th century Bathe-like (as in the England's town of Bathe) in that it is a resort with lectures, a historic village feel, plays and concerts, and reactional activities like tennis and swimming.

What about Cook's Forrest? Us Ohioans go there sometimes.
