You would be a fool to spend a lot of time in that specific location. Do you have a family? If so why don't you take them there and walk around that area after dark for about an hour and see how comfortable your family is.

That is a cop out answer.

I have already had my family in that area after dark for events in the cultural district. I have never had any issues, nor have I had anxiety about taking a stray bullet.

You are certainly welcome to stay outside the city limits. Your palpable fear would probably make you an obvious target for the extremely rare predator looking to randomly shoot strangers. But that's your prerogative.

The local news. Here is a good site showing the data for murders in Pittsburgh: Homicide: Pittsburgh and Allegheny County

Did you walk around the bus stop on Liberty where this shooting took place? Most people I know would be be uneasy in that location with good reason.

It is not just murder. It is the rude comments, name calling, and comments designed to provoke which is common at that location. At the same time the panhandlers are getting very aggressive to the point of following people and yelling at people even on the other side of the street.

While I'm sure you're aware, but again choosing to put the incident in a different narrative but the shooting wasn't a predator looking to shoot strangers but yet another street tussle where those involved have no care for human life & have no issue shooting at each other in a crowded area where 3 of the 4 people shot were innocently downtown for what should be a family friendly celebration. Such press, between this & the fights that break out there is terrible when a downtown is wanting to attract more & more people to live & play there. But I guess we should tell the people who were shot to suck it up & stop being delicate flowers. You may find such incidents an acceptable part of urban life but most do not.

It's also reported now that numerous fights occurred in market square earlier in the night by large groups of youths that the police failed to do much about which likely led to this escalation.

That data does not substantiate your assertion that "The number of shootings seems to have drastically increased this year".

And while making a determination whether or not McClay is responsible for a dramatic increase in shootings in PGH (as others have suggested), it is necessary to BOTH compare the data over a long period of time AND contextualize the information by examining the trend in peer cities during that same time period. Otherwise you are just playing with yourself.

That bus stop and the McDonalds across the street are scary even during the day, let alone at night!

Point being that you face EXTREMELY long odds of being shot by a stranger in downtown PGH at any time. Unless you can present data to refute that, then you are merely fear-mongering. And if that's the case, I have to wonder about your agenda.

Also the italicized portion of your post above is extremely irresponsible. Can you at least provide a link? If you have any specific information about the relationship between the individuals in Market Square and those involved in the shooting on 7th street, then you should report it to police. Otherwise you shouldn't be making these accusations without substantiation in a public forum.
