They should be highly-scrutinized if they're making six-figure salaries derived from taxpayer dollars and are being entrusted with the future of a segment of our city. I had to jump through hoops in a multi-person three-hour-long interview to be a floating bank teller with PNC making $10/hr. for crying out loud, so I'd expect someone making numerous times that to have numerous times more vetting.

They did the background check. Unless you think the entire notion of a forced resignation is unethical, then he did nothing wrong in listing his reason for separation as resignation. He was telling the truth. He has proven himself capable and confident before and since. I do not believe investigative journalism level of scrutiny should be a requirement for city officials. A background check is not a top secret security clearance.
