There's a big difference between police unions and other unions. Unions typically advocate for wages and working conditions for their members, and are required by law to provide representation to all members and non-members in cases of discipline or termination. But outside of police unions, I can't think of any other area where the union tries to dictate how to run the entire organization. The job of management is to manage, after all, for better or for worse.

Police are also charged with protecting all citizens, yet the union seems to prioritize the feelings of thin-skinned officers over the mission of the police department.

It would be easier for the cops to just get jobs in the suburbs and let new, inexperienced people be trained the way the Mayor wants.

Because doing nothing to stave off an exodus of experienced officers is going to do wonders for passing on institutional knowledge and skills. The homicide clearance rate will become even more of a sad joke.

Pittsburgh's police union is no different than any other city like ours. Accepted nepotism, cronyism, waste and curruption. Along comes an outsider who rocks the boat, this should come as no surprise. The entrenched good old boys can't afford to have a chief who is expecting better of the officers.

If crime increases under the watch of a chief they are doing a poor job.
If crime decrease under the watch of a chief they are doing a good job.

I don't care about other metrics.

Which is ironically, not a part of this bogus "vote". The vote seems to be part of a personal vendetta against McLay. It seems as plain as day to me, a damn alien who just landed could determine the same if he had 10 minutes to play catch up.
