Is it just me or is there very few accounting jobs in the city?
The jobs I do see are all through temp agencies.

PNC does have a lot of listings (with odd job titles), but they aren't filling them.

I know quite a few accountants in town that work at places ranging from major corporation, big 4 consulting, smaller consulting, and self employed. What is it that is causing you to think there are a lack of jobs in this area? Do you have a specific focus within accounting?

Indeed.com is convincing me there is a lack of accounting jobs in the city. Not really a specific focus for me. I'm half way done with the CPA, but my experience is a few years office manager with some bookkeeping.

The Big Four (Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, and Ernst & Young) all have a large presence Downtown.

Same here.

There are plenty of jobs.... but, according to my cousin the accountant, few job openings.

And they are the hardest companies to get into and you can't at all unless you know someone there.

I am 99% sure 3 of the people that I know who worked at one of the big 4's (different firms, too) didn't know anyone there when they started out of college.

Agree. That's why I suggested university career services as they often reach out to schools for recruitment.

College recruitment is the best and pretty much only way to get in without prior public experience. I wouldn't really call the work that accountants do for the big 4 "consulting" though. they do have separate consulting arms but that is reserved for other majors and they don't have as big a presence in pittsburgh. pittsburgh is mostly audit and tax for accountants.
