Default Why do you love Pittsburgh?

I am debating on whether I want to move to Atlanta or Pittsburgh (for school) and I was wondering what everyone loves about Pittsburgh? Any opinions/advice welcome!

It's a very hip up and coming city. VERY affordable. Emerging Art, Music Culture scene. Southside is known for there abundance of hip and trendy bars. Nice choice of restaurants.

Loads of NY'er have and still are moving to Pittsburgh buying and fliping houses since they are very inexpensive compared to most citys Many NYers are starting up business here since it is eaiser and less expensive. During Fashion week in nyc. Several designers have already talked about opening high end trendy boutiques in Southside and Downtown Pittsburgh.

Your best bet is vist and spend sometime get a feel for it.

Also several friends of mine from NYC are buying up the homes in Carrick and Southside and turning them into luxury homes.

ex...a friend bought this home in Aug for $54,000 and is now selling it for $354,000

Moderator cut: advertising

I would love to agree with you NYS, I just have yet to see a major buzz. So far it seems like a hum (no thatnks to Sienna Miller, lol)

I think most of us Pittsburghers love our rich history ethnicity as well.

They also love our sports teams (too much I think.)

I do hope Pittsburgh becomes hip for young people. I think what we should do is tell our friends who live outside the 'burgh is to spread the word.

Pittsburgh and Atlanta is pretty much night and day.

I love Pittsburgh. But I was born here. I also currently live here. My friends and family are here. These are the main reasons why I love Pittsburgh.

If coming from somewhere else, trying to decide between Pittsburgh and Atlanta, I can't really make an argument for Pittsburgh. You compare Pittsburgh to cities like Cleveland. There really is no comparison between Pittsburgh and Atlanta.

In trying to be as unbiased as possible - Terms like "up and coming" and "emerging" are pretty generous. Pittsburgh as a lot of problems. Problems that Atlanta doesn't have. Problems like a declining population. Problems like the availability of jobs.

I am sure Pittsburgh is a hell of a lot cheaper than Atlanta. So there's that. Pittsburgh Hockey and Football pretty much dominate Atlanta. Pittsburgh gets a lot of snow.

Just being honest.

I actually think that Pittsburgh has problems (as you mentioned) but can still be "emerging" which I also believe it is.

Atlanta has problems that Pittsburgh doesn't have, too, including having no water and a worsening and burgeoning traffic fiasco. Overall I completely agree with you though, they are two completely different types of cities. Comparing them is like comparing apples to oranges.

You can't beat Pittsburgh for its combination of livability and old-school urban-industrial aesthetic. Cheap as hell too.

I also love that its people are so contentious that even the "fling your crap here so it doesn't clog up the other threads" thread had to be shut down.

I love the neighborhoods. Pittsburgh has so many different neighborhoods, some quite small, each with their own history and distinct personality. And I love the fact that many of these neighborhoods are making a comeback as people begin to rediscover the advantages of urban living. And I love the fact that housing here costs much less than it would for comparable places in many other cities.
