I know I am not a very regular poster on this forum, but have noticed a few things, and would like to offer a suggestion:

I think the moderator said it best: "It is not a tennis match if you don't return the ball"

We have had an influx of drama on this board lately, and I think it can be quashed by just ignoring these posts. Don't feed the animals! If something you read just seems assinine, don't respond! Their thread will eventually fall down to the bottom, and if you ignore them, they will eventually stop posting here.

! If they are doing something that violates the terms of service, report them! That's what the moderators are here for.

We can't help that they hate this city for various reasons, or that they have too much time on their hands, or that they like to rouse up controversy. But if you ignore them (and this means no PM's, no nasty name calling, no snarky comments) THEY WILL GO AWAY.

I am a member of a number of boards, and they all get trolls occasionally. For some reason this one seems to get more than normal . Ignoring them is the only option that I have found that works.

Of course you're right. A little off topic, but did they remove the rights to give someone negative rep? I just noticed that today, LOL.

I was gone for a few days, and was really surprised to come back to see that several posters who seemed "normal" kind of went off the edge over the weekend. To quote another online friend, "I dig everyone. Tree pretty. Fire bad."

Well, this may get the thread closed, but I was appalled, absolutely appalled, that someone would post that they sympathized with the person who told londonbarcelona they were glad her son died. If anyone said anything like that about my kids, I'd go ballistic. That is not the kind of thing you should say to Saddam Hussein, let alone a City-Data member.

This venom has infiltrated the ENTIRE forum lately, not just Pittsburgh. I don't know if people are stir-crazy from being cooped up in their homes all winter or what, but the Northeastern Pennsylvania sub-forum has developed just as much animosity as this one, as have many other forums I've been browsing as of late. I myself have been the main target in that sub-forum simply because someone initially took something I said out of context, I defended myself, others defended her, and VOILA---instant fight. Poor Yac is probably just shaking his head in disbelief at all that has been occurring, but what can he really do? He can't help that the lot of the PA forum has become irritated with one another. I tried staying off of here for a couple of days to see if that would calm things down, but then I noticed a few others who weren't involved in the initial fight arguing amongst one another, and I had to defend the NY/NJ transplants from the natives who were attacking them!

I truly don't know what the answer is. It seems like the answer is always "ban SWB for a week," but whether I'm here or not a lot of that controversy and bickering STILL would have occurred (one thread in particular on the NEPA sub-forum was destined for total disaster from the get-go as it called out the region's "miserable" people and demanded to know why they didn't move out).

If anyone has some solid suggestions on what should be done, I'm sure Yac, otr, etc. would welcome them. I know at least two loyal NEPA members have left for good now because of all of this hatred being spewed out, and God willing if I ever break my own Internet addiction I'll be gone too.

So true, SWB, even the Denver forum, which used to be a more respectful one, has gotten nasty lately. Maybe you're right and it's "cabin fever".

While I agree with you on that point Katiana, Londonbarcelona seemed to resent the entire city of Pittsburgh for no reason. Could it be misplaced grief over her son? Of course it could. But while many of us should have just ignored her comments, or just disagreed, it turned into a big drama.

I think dealing with 412 is a great example. Those of us who fell for his trap quickly learned to ignore him- and now he's gone....

Unfortunately, he'll be back. And people keep giving him rep!

Some people give positive reps with nasty comments.
