Hello Pittsburghers:
I just got a very bad surprise!
I purchased private health insurance on October 1, 2016 from Coventry One/Health America, after I ran out of my COBRA insurance. Being in Pittsburgh, and having providers through both Allegheny Health Network and UPMC, I chose Coventry (which is underwritten by Aetna) because they told me my providers in both medical organizations would be covered. So, today I go to pay my January 2017 premium and bam! I'm told my policy is expired/cancelled because Health America is not issuing policies in Pa. any longer. No letter, no email--nothing. I am beyond shocked and very worried since I have a serious pre-existing condition and need uninterrupted healthcare coverage.
Does anyone know about this company abruptly pulling out of Pa? Can a health insurance company do that without notice? Most importantly, what is the best health insurance policy to purchase here in Pittsburgh? I'm aware of Highmark and UPMC but know that both don't cover providers from their competing networks.
I appreciate any feedback. Thanks!
