Not too exciting as far as the city is concerned because the Highland Park dam and the one up around Springdale will still be in place, but north of there they may take them out. It would be good for fish spawning and such. Interesting read for those interested.

It's a good idea (removing the locks), hope they can get that done. It will improve water quality and the fishery, should also open up more of the river for canoeing.

On a similar note, it would be great to see the rushing waters of the Allegheny and Monongahela again as they flow past downtown, but I know this project will not effect this portion of the river. I also realize the amount of cargo that gets transported up and down the Ohio, so those locks are not going away anytime soon. But it sure would make Pittsburgh shine all the more to see flowing water, rapids, right downtown.

Might affect those upstream that have a houseboat or other large boat and needs a fairly deep pool of water.

You'll never see that, as the flood control dams put an end to the regular major floods that were a threat to the vitality of Pittsburgh, as well as Cincy and Louisville. Without flood control, Hurricane Agnes would have put the entire downtown under water, as well as a large chunk of the south and north sides. Not worth risking that to see "rushing waters".
