This thread does remind me of a comment made here in a previous discussion that Pittsburgh is the only place they've been where they've gotten honked at for stopping at a stop sign or stopping for pedestrians IIRC. Also, should we really be trying to hold NJ drivers as the gold standard for being behind the wheel.

I love the city but I must agree that drivers here are the worst. The Pittsburgh Left alone is a huge hazard and I think many drivers believe they truly have the right of way. The crazy thing is the number of people who take this chance when there are only one or two cars that they will have to wait for before making a left turn. Drivers also do not want to yield to pedestrians.

The "Pittsburgh Left" certainly isn't exclusive to Pittsburgh. It happens across the nation where there's not a turning lane. Drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists ALL need to do a better job obeying the laws.

I see people doing the Pittsburgh left even when there is a dedicated left turning lane

If the light is red that's extreme.

It always cracks me up when 'burghers act like we're the only city that does it. Even moreso when someone complaining about drivers is the same person who admitted to speeding but still fought the ticket anyway because "it was only 5 mph over".

City cops definitely don't get paid enough.

Only in comparison to Pittsburgh drivers.

In Pittsburgh, pedestrians bad.

"Bad pedestrians. Bad. Bad. Bad. Stand, pedestrians, stand. Stand and wait, pedestrians. Oh, and **** crosswalks, pedestrians. Just **** that Abbey Road ****."

I have lived, and driven, in five U.S. cities from the southeast to the northwest. I have never experienced the "Pittsburgh Left" as a usual driving practice. So it ain't THAT common. And even of it was, it wouldn't be any less foolish.

I got honked at yesterday for NOT doing a Pittsburgh left with now the issue of the oncoming car expecting you to do one, and then honking when you don’t.

So the oncoming driver was being courteous by letting you turn left and you sat there waiting instead?

While it's from 2014, Pittsburgh ranks 7 for safest pedestrian cities.
