3000 Block of Riverview Street. Anyone familiar with this part of McKeesport? Is it okay/decent, bad, good? I realize McKeesport is in decline, but I am under the impression that some areas of the city are stable.

Riverview is OK, yet near the ghetto... To my knowledge Jinny Lind St is a good cut off point.

And what about 2803 Grover Street in McKeesport? is this a good area? or a bad one?
How much rent would you expect to pay in such area?

Here check out this map of the bad areas (from a non resident).
https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid...5c36fa64&msa=0
Its bad, but not horrible... Some may debate weather this area is a full-fledged, rock bottom status ghetto or still in the category of major decline, yet the worst thing about this area is undoubtably the affects of spill over. This area isn't particularly dangerous for law abiding people, as most killings/shootings/robberies/home invasions are gang/drug-related...

However, they still occasionally occur because gang members from the other part of 7th Ward/the Harrison Village Projects/Hi-View Gardens Apartments/6th Ward are known to frequent this area to do dirt. A long standing feud between the Crawford Village Crips & Down Bottom Harrison Village Goons/Bailie Avenue Bloods had resulted in several gang-related homicides last year (and have already done so this year)... Therefore due to its proximity to a gang-affiliated area, spill over shootings will be common (and have occurred in years past) on Grover Street.

*Aside from that unground gang stuff, overall, that area is without a doubt not in the greatest shape and is not showing any signs of getting better. It's a working class area with notable crime/gang activity and there are other working class communities in/near "Killa McKee" without that...
*Try the 10th Ward & Kirsty Park neighborhoods; or a street that's near Penn State campus/any where else in McKeesport not shaded in the map above...

I agree with Uptown Kid on this one. I work in Mckeesport and also lived there for a three or four years. IMO Mckeesport is an area trying to make an name for themselves in a negative way. Grover street really isn't that bad IMO as long as you're not passing Sumac st. The school districts there all have changed since I've moved out but if you have kids you might want to consider Propel. Their test scores would surprise many. The Christy Park area back when I was little was extremely racist back when I was little but may have changed once I've moved out. Again Agreeing with UTK the closer to the highschool the better( with the exception of Crawford Vlg.

On that exact corner I believe someone was gunned down there at the bar about a block in a half away.
As far as rent I would say Average in McKeesport would be 550 to upper 600 range.

Any opinions on the Madison Avenue area of McKeesport? Dangerous or just gritty? Thanks!

That area is in Ward 6 McKeesport aka "UpTop." This area is worse than the Grover street area, and 6th Ward (like 7th Ward & the Harrison Village Projects) is largely gang-affiliated with the Bloods. 6th Ward McKeesport is one of the county's worst neighborhoods in terms of violence. Only non project areas that are worse are most of Homewood, part of the Hill, and Central Wilkinsburg.

However, Madison Street is located on the right end if 6th Ward, as its a stone throw away from Downtown McKeesport- which has a lot police presence. Also its a dead end street that leads to a cemetery, so there a chance that Madison Street might be a livable street an a very dangerous neighborhood.

If the Madison Street property is your LAST RESORT and you don't mind living in a top 10 Allegheny County ghetto, then check it out before you make a decision. Even go there at night (if you have a car) or ask a resident-or two how they feel about the street/neighborhood.
My guess/hope is that its an alright street in a bad neighborhood, but in contrast: it could very well be gang affiliated so be careful if and when you check it out.

Thanks, Uptown! I appreciate your insight into the area. I believe it's 5th ward, but I understand that the general area is bad. I'm actually a bit surprised that it is a rough area, because it seemed mostly abandoned and extremely quiet when I was there in the late afternoon. It's close to downtown, so I thought it might be safe, but I realize downtown McKeesport isn't exactly booming.
