I take the SHV T every day. I pay $112/month for parking + riding.
I usually get the 5:50 or 6:03 A.M and get to Wood street by 6:25-6:30

The parking garage is never close to being full, I used to take a very late 7:30 AM T and still never had a problem parking. Getting a seat on a leter T that's a whole other issue.

And you pay/flash your pass when you board going toward downtown, and when you disembark going away from downtown. So you'll show your pass at SHV when you get on and when you get off.

Buying a monthly pass would be better if she took it consistently.
Hey, my mom works at federated. But, it depends on where the op lives, if the op parks at any of the park and rides other that south hills and castle shanon the parking will be free and the trip is shorter and most parking in town is over $10.

I thought the monthly passes are now more expensive, especially now that you have to pay to park at the SHV station. I am pretty sure I saw them for $100+ at giant eagle.

I would take the Kirwin Heights exit off of 79 and head over to the Dormont station. There is no fee to park.

Default T

Riding the T is quite simple. If you get on at SHV, it only goes one direction, so you can't get on the wrong train. On the way back, you would just need to make sure you get on the 47S or 42S as those are the only ones that go out to the village. They run quite frequently during rush hour - every 10 minutes.

The current prices at the garage are $20 for a monthly pass or $2/day. A monthly Zone 2 T-pass is $90. You can also get a book of 10 tickets for $26 if you wanted to try it for a week. Both the monthly and individual tickets can be purchased at Giant Eagle.

A previous poster mentioned parking at Dormont, but that would only work if you were leaving quite early, as that lot (along with Washington Junction - the free lot at Castle Shannon generally has spaces) fills up quickly.

I ride the T every day from SHV and find it far preferable to sitting in traffic. I don't think it takes much longer than driving, and it is a much more relaxing experience.

I thought it was every ten minutes, but someone else may know better.

All schedules are available on-line at the port authority website.

I believe it is portauthority dot org. (I've had it save in my favorites so long, I haven't actually typed that address in a long time!)

Yes, I know...we have the same type setup here in New York, but you can usually wipe your butt with the posted schedules, from my experience, because the trains don't follow them... I was just wondering if the T is similar, or if it actually may stick TO its scheduled arrival & departure times....
