I don’t know about others, but I rarely eat a heavy burger/fries meal when traveling. The only exception would be if I am celebrating some sort of accomplishment prior to taking off on a short (< 1 hour) flight, and that would much more likely be on the way back to Pittsburgh than in Pittsburgh. In general, though, I find it tough to find good food in airports. The places that have a mini Whole Foods type market with prepared foods and healthier options, there is one in Detroit that I can’t recall the name, tend to draw me most often.

In Pittsburgh, I am most inclined to go after a cheese plate at Bottegia or Vino Volo, the smoked salmon crostini at Vino Volo, or a salad at Bar Symon. I am also a sucker for a sausage McMuffin (no hash brown) or the spinach feta egg white wrap at Starbucks. The only thing I might miss about TGI Friday’s, and this is a stretch, is the Bloody Mary.

I fly to and from Asia and Pittsburgh frequently. I generally never eat on the plane, but, will snack in the lounges.

I would not likely eat a burger before getting on a plane for a long flight!

MSP has a nice cafeteria-type place where you can make your own salads and grab some soups and hot foods.

Its not bad at all.

I heard TGI Friday's shut down their McKnight Road location yesterday without much warning to the employees. Rumor has it that the Airport locations were their most profitable in Pittsburgh, and without them, they won't be keeping too much of a presence in the region. Out with the old, in with the new.

First we learn Boston Market in Bloomfield is being torn down for a new UPMC hospital, and now we learn that TGI Friday’s is failing? Won’t someone think of the children?
