Default Steffan Hill Beaver Falls PA - origin of name

Does any one know how Steffan Hill in Beaver Falls Pa got its name

I was searching the internet for Steffen Hill and came up with a site about Viet Nam and those who died there

An Alan Steffen was listed

I am wondering if his ancestors may have lived in PA and that is who the Hill is named after

Alan Lived In Cleveland Before he Died IN Vietnam

Any help would be appreciated

6 degrees of seperation may be involved here.

I'd contact the library in Beaver Falls. They might have maps and newspapers detailing who owned the land, or they can direct you to local history sources. Most historic/archival documents like that aren't going to be available online.

Actually, that is an excellent idea, fleetiebelle. The BF library has a local history museum on its premises.

While you're doing that you can try to figure out why Ross Hill is called Ross Hill to which is only several blocks down. I am going to go out on a limb and guess that they are probably called that because that who originally lived in that area. As in most of the mill communities surrounding Pittsburgh, the blue-collar workers typically lived near or around the main town/city area and the executives lived on the hill. Typically these houses would have land that accompanied it, that their families as they grew, would move onto. This doesn't apply everywhere, but seems to be a trend.

It is fairly common to name a road after some prominent inhabitant, or the original owner of the land, etc. My father's family sold some of their farm for a subdivision in Big Beaver, and it was named after them plus a street in there has their (my) name.
