Red face Any Info On West View Football Team? 1928

Have a great football team photo which says WEST VIEW CHAMPS 1928, the photographer is VERZELLA STUDIO OF PITTSBURGH, so I'm assuming this team was from WEST VIEW in Pittsburgh, but I can't find any schools in the area by that name, any historians out there that can help?? Thanks

It's possible that your photo is referencing the area name. I came up with "Borogh of West View" which seems to be the North Hills? You may try researching North Hills High?? Here's the links I found: http://www.westviewcc.net/borough/schools.html or http://www.westviewcc.net/

Have you tried posting in the forums on ancestry or geneology sites? There are of alot of very helpful and knowledgeable folks there!

Good luck to you!

West View is now part of the North Hills School District. But West View Borough pre-dates the North Hills. I believe North Hills was formed around the late 1940's or early 1950's. I'm pretty sure that what is now West View Elementary (part of No. Hills School District) was the old West View High School. Probably the Borough office could tell you more about where the class of 1928 would have been.

Default West View Football Team

The team in question is probably the West View Sandlot Team. The team owner and manager was Paul Muzzio. Paul Muzzio was my father's uncle. Uncle Paul was a close associate of Art Rooney. Before the Steelers came into existence in 1933 the Pittsburgh area had a number of semi-pro teams. Apparently, two of the most prominent of those teams was the Rooney Northside team and Muzzio's West View team. Henry Muzzio, another one of my uncles was on the West View team.

I would like to purchase the photo or obtain a copy of it. My father is 93 years old and has memories of the West View team and I would like to get it for him. He has a scrapbook (somewhere in his home) with photos of the games.

At one time, the Muzzio family was prominent in West View. My great-grandfather, John Muzzio, was one of the first city counselors in West View. The Muzzio home was on Chalfant Ave near St. Athanasias Church. My father inherited the home about 25 years ago, fixed it up and ultimately sold it.
