"The man who wrote this article serves on the board of a charter school, and is part of a pro-charter lobbying group. He wrote an article (and apparently a book) supportive of charter schools."

To be fair, insofar as the backgrounds of the authors of links and studies is relevant, Freddie de Boer (who you linked to) is an _intensely_ hardcore ideologue himself. More specifically, he's an unabashed lefty and open socialist, who has a specific set of moral commitments that drive his writing and activism.

I like de Boer, I've read a lot of his writing, and I've interacted with him online a bit, but anyone who doesn't share his moral worldview would be well-served to understand where he's coming from. It's a far from dispassionate, bloodlessly analytic place.

I've dealt with Freddie a lot online too. Actually, I knew him before he was "famous," when he was still a college student in Connecticut and we were part of the same...study group.

Freddie's writing on education is very heterodox for being a left winger however, and he often gets unfairly attacked as being some sort of crypto-racist for what he talks about.
