This is a huge loss to the cultural holdings of our libraries, and a huge breach of trust by two people who should have known better: Two men charged with stealing more than $8 million in rare books from Carnegie Library | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Quote:
A former Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh archivist and a respected Oakland antiquarian bookseller “cannibalized” rare books from the institution by cutting out pages and stole more than $8 million worth of precious items over a 20-year period, according to the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office.

Throw them in jail for a the maximum sentence. These people are scum, I don't care how old they are.

I really liked Caliban and went there often. That's not happening anymore.

I wonder if it will be liquidated or just sold to someone new?

If the store is sold to a new owner, then perhaps you might reconsider that stance. I do agree with you, though, if it's just passed to a family member or caretaker who's associated with the criminals.

I would think jail time is going to happen. Makes me sick.

Both of these guys had all of their eggs in one basket with Schulman's wife as his only partner and Greg's wife as a long time staff member at CLP. I believe more will come out; I find it hard to believe Schulman's wife had no idea of the thefts over the 20 year period just as I don't believe Mrs Priore didn't know about large sums of money coming to them despite obvious financial problems they were experiencing. I know both of these men personally and I am not one bit surprised.

I guess we’ll see if money can buy you a light sentence in a major crime that you have no doubt about the guilt.

Interesting why you say this, especially for Priore. Schulman seems like he has ego issues.
