I did not see a thread about this.

https://triblive.com/local/allegheny...ntown-building

Bike Lane Bill would rather buy a new building than fix some of the shabby streets and sidewalks downtown. There are holes and subsidence in several streets, many sidewalks have loose or missing bricks and some traffic signs could help move traffic better.

Hmm...the article I read says the city has an unsafe firetrap of an office building, so they plan on selling it and moving into a new space. Smart move. Remind me again, where do you live?

This should help clear up the one issue you pointed out:

https://triblive.com/local/regional/...raffic-signals

• Allegheny County — $3,560,565 for improvements to pedestrian facilities at 35 traffic signals in the City of Pittsburgh’s Central Business District.

Almost all of what I was referring to has nothing to do with traffic signals. The streets and sidewalks themselves have holes, are subsiding, have missing bricks, and loose bricks. Downtown traffic moves poorly because it is a free for all with no signs restricting anything and no traffic police.

Of course they will say that, that is how politicians justify spending, I mean wasting, taxpayer money. There are many higher priorities than this but Bike Lane Bill's priorities are obvious.

Did you even read the article?

Quote:
Officials want to dump 200 Ross because the city has not maintained it for years. The building is a firetrap that does not comply with city building regulations and has chronically malfunctioning heating and cooling systems, broken down elevators and a dysfunctional floor plan prohibitive to providing public services, among other things.
Remind me where it is that you live, again.

I don't know where Enough Already lives, but it's not the city. Bill Peduto seems to be living rent free in OPs head, though.

There are legitimate reasons to disagree with this quick building purchase, but it's not the suburban Enough Already noise. You guys need to try harder.

My issue with the purchase is:

1. The building was just purchased a couple of years ago for $10 million......so the City is paying nearly 3x’s as much for a building that will still require $13 million in renovations.

2. The building was assessed at $7.4 million which just shows another example the tax breaks the more valuable real estate recieve that normal home owners get to pay for.

"..and we have city workers who deserve first-class amenities.."

WTF? First-class amenities for city workers? Like what, a fitness facility, juice bar? What?
