What do you dislike most about Pittsburgh? (Bloomfield: renter, condos)

Peduto. Really, not a better candidate exists? He's the national face of your city - and it's not a pretty face.

Second would be the Winter weather. Always hated it when I lived there. Now that I'm MN, I love winter. It gets cold and stays cold. In Pittsburgh it goes back and forth too often.

On the bright side, there's plenty to love about the City - a lot more than there is to dislike.

1. The weather is so gloomy that I wallow in a dark cloud of depression from November - April.

2. The amount of smokers everywhere also bothers me. I feel like it’s commonplace to see a mom pushing a newborn around in a stroller while puffing away on a cigarette. Parents don’t seem to think it’s inconsiderate to smoke at the playground. It’s difficult to escape second-hand smoke here. I think many Pittsburghers have the rationale “I’m gonna die anyway!” or “My grandpa worked in the steel mill, drank whiskey, and smoked every day and lived to be 100!” I briefly lived in Seattle, and it was rare to see a blatant smoker. They were MUCH stricter about smoking in proximity to businesses. The doctors, nurses, and patients are all hanging outside of the hospitals smoking like chimneys here. It’s like watching a dentist bite into a candied apple outside of his dental office.

3. The air quality is terrible and asthma is prevalent.

4. People litter everywhere and make our beautiful city look gross.

Seattle...ah, paradise. They just won't tolerate you hard working, middle or lower class people who work and pay your taxes, and just need a little something to take the edge off! Now the homeless, washing needles in public fountains, and spreading their excrement over the sidewalks? Just cool with them!

I'm just going to point out KOMO is owned by Sinclair, which is likely by far the most politically biased local news ownership in the country. Seattle certainly has had some serious cost of living issues though in the last decade and it probably won't be getting better soon.

It's been my idea to start a FB page called "Pigsburgh". Taking photos of garbage, litter, etc and providing the addresses. Unlike Seattle, Pittsburgh's litter problem is from business owners and the non-homeless. Just inconsiderate lazy people.

It's actually part of the city code that business owners are responsible for keeping the sidewalks and gutter in front of their businesses clean (of snow and litter). I once reached out to my never responsive or even visible Coghill councilman, and the response was that small businesses have it tough enough that they dont enforce it. Talk about pathetic. Back in the day, cleaning of your sidewalk was just part of opening the shop in the morning and wasnt considered a burden but rather how to make your place look appealing. It's not a Pittsburgh thing though, humans are mostly trash themselves anymore, so I expect nothing more from them.

For the record I visited Seattle last year. Aside going to the grunge hall of fame, enjoying fresh seafood and salmon, enjoying the cool climate I just didn’t care for it. I guess I was expecting something better. Pike place market was cool but it didn’t blow me away. I think the surrounding counties were nice. Lots of mountains and outdoorsy stuff. Out away from the city

My wife was the one who suggested Seattle for a long weekend. We don’t have the desire to go again. It wasn’t bad. I just didn’t see anything super special that made us go wow this is fantastic. Underwhelming for us both.

After we return my wife wished we would’ve gone back to New Orleans. I suggested that originally but said ok to Seattle since we never visited before.

Smokers bother me too. That is one of the things I do not miss at all about PA since I relocated to TX. I do not miss the lack of sun throughout the year either. I will admit that the summers in TX are a bit too hot for me though I am enjoying more days of bright sunshine.

You're right and that is the worst aspect of this. If any of you are familiar with Greenfield - that ravine near the Hammer Field was a dumping ground for years with everything from discarded appliances (ovens!) to a local contractor's waste. My cousins and I, and other kids over the years, i guess, used to play in among all that garbage years ago. It may have been cleaned up by now.
