This is just horrible. Stories like this have always kept me from ever considering cycling to get around.

Yeah. I would love to start biking to work but am terrified to do so. We really need to improve our cycling infrastructure.

wow....im sorry for your father's friend.

i see it daily on Smallman Street. Drivers seem to think that is a speedway bypass to Liberty Avenue. No - there are stop signs. There is a dog care place with a narrow parking area - the leashes are sometimes long enough that a dog darts partly into the travel lane. There are people from the side streets that roll through their stop signs. I would cycle THERE before ever using Penn or Liberty in rush hours or busy times (post-Steelers games, for example), but even there on Smallman between St. Stanislaus and 31st street, you have to be very careful....

2 years ago, on Lincoln Avenue in Bellevue, i was trying my hardest to pedal far enough ahead past the parked cars to a widened area, to allow the bus behind me to proceed.
didnt matter for her, the bus driver. she plowed ahead, with me sandwiched between parked cars and the moving bus....with literally 2-3 inches of leeway, let alone the mandated 4'. it was terrifying.

im sure it was obvious i was trying to move quickly so as not to hold up the passengers and the bus schedule...she could have slowed. but instead, could have killed me.

I reported a PAT bus driver for doing something like that on Penn. I was a passenger on the bus and I felt so bad for the cyclist.

You already said you’re scared to ride a bike, so how does giving up riding a motorcycle due to distracted drivers have anything to do with succumbing “to societal pressures and get Hummers cuz ‘Murica!!!”....and Hummer’s haven’t been made for 9 years.
