Rudeness in Pittsburgh
I lived in Pittsburgh for many years and me and my wife (both weren't raised in the area) would often encounter rudeness from a variety of people, in fact we had black listed many places of business due to rudeness and bad service in general.
Well, we moved a bit ago and while eating diner somewhere we realized we haven't complained about bad service since we left! Part of the issue may be that we weren't raised in the area and we view things as rude that people from the area may not, but a lot of it was clearly nasty.
So, I'm curious if anybody else has had similar experiences.

I'm not a native Pittsburgher but, have lived here for a long time. I haven't noticed any rudeness. Pittsburghers are rarely rude to people who are nice to them.
I travel alot also and really haven't noticed any rudeness - I guess I'm thick skinned or have a demeanor that evokes niceness.

I used to live just outside of Philadelphia, and compared to that, Pittsburgh is incredibly friendly. I people aren't as nice as small town USA, but as far as cities go, I am pretty happy with Pittsburgh.

I've found Pittsburgh on average to be way more friendly and polite than other places I lived or spent substantial time in (DC, hampton roads, NJ/NYC area to name a few). You do run into a rude person every once a while of course, but its not typical.

I think when you're going to a restuarant or business and find rude people, that might be different than just a person on the street. If someone is working they might be stressed out or be dealing with pressure from their bosses, so I can understand some rudeness there.
I have found that generally, though, Pittsburghers are exceptionally friendly. If you're open to it, you can make new friends anywhere you go.

In my experience, Pittsburgh folks are at least as friendly as the people in the Midwestern cities where I have lived (Detroit and Chicago), and considerably more friendly than the East Coast cities where I have lived or spent considerable time.
Of course this is all city-to-city comparisons--the friendliest people (at least in a context like a business or restaurant) I have met have tended to be in rural areas.

As far as cities go...Pittsburgh is one of the friendliest.
If you compare Pittsburgh to a small town...I guess it's possible to get a different answer.

I've lived in pgh all of my life and many many people here are very rude i totally agree with you on this one. There are plenty of unhappy employees in various places that treat customers really bad and I always say if you don't like your job then quit don't take it out on the customer but hey it happens. You just have to take the good with the bad i guess. In my case I'm sick of it. I wouldn't mind some southern hospitality

Southern hospitality ain't all it's cracked up to be either..
Pittsburgh is about as friendly a city as I have found. Sure, some people can be rude. Heck, *I* can be rude on occasion! But overall, I find it very friendly.
