Pooh!!! They don't have the room we want available And ya'll got me all excited. It didn't occur to me we are coming down Memorial day weekend.DUH! So we are looking at an extended stay place in Carnegie. It is right off of 279 and, though nowhere near as cute, it is affordable. Wea re staying a week and evrything else in town is out of the budget. How about Carnegie? Are we gonna get carjacked on the way to the freeway?

Carnegie's not a terrible place, and there you're not too far from the Sharp Edge Creekhouse in Crafton, so you can still get your beer on.

Carnegie's fine! Which place are you looking at? There are 2 I can think of in that area - let me know and I can give you my input.

Its Extended Stay at 520 N Bell Ave. Its right off the freeway (do ya'll call them that?). Also, about how long do you think it would take to get the the East End in non-traffic and traffic times? How about Mt Lebo? It seems like it is just right around the corner form there. I am getting so excited I am about to burst. We have been looking at PGH for almost two years now and i am, finally goig to be there in a little over a week. Its almost like visiting somewhere from one of your dreams I really, really wanted to stay in town but all Friendship Suites had was 2 bedrooms which is over $350. dollars more than this place. I figured we could better spend that money doing stuff and getting to know our soon to be home!!

Okay, if it's the place I'm thinking of (and I'm almost positive it is), it's kind of up on a hill away from everything. Which is good in a sense I guess - you don't have to worry about any Carnegie shenanigans.
East End in non-traffic times... 15-20 minutes or so I would say.
Traffic times, maybe 45.
Mt. Lebanon is super close, about 10/15 minutes (it's close, but there's no really fast way to get there).
Also, even though you will be in Carnegie technically, I think you are going to need to get off at the Rosslyn Farms exit (at least if you are coming from the city). You're really close to Rosslyn Farms, which is a nice area.
If you want any more information about different things around the place (like parks, restaurants, etc.) I can definitely help you out.
Good luck with everything!

Without traffic that is less than 1/2 an hour (in fact we can get from our home in Regent Square to the airport, out past your hotel on the highway, in less than 1/2 an hour without traffic). Traffic could add somewhere around 10 to 20 minutes, sometimes more, depending on the time of day. So I'd try to avoid traffic if possible, just because you will have very short drives without it.

It is! And there is probably a backroads way to get there through Carnegie, so hopefully someone here or at the hotel can give you directions.

It is a great time of year for a visit, too. And hopefully you get at least some nice weather.

Being in Friendship would have been cool, but I'm not sure worth the extra cost, since you'll definitely be fine based where you are considering you have a car. But I would indeed recommend timing your days to avoid traffic.

This is so silly. I am having this much trouble just choosing a hotel room. Imagine how bad I'll be picking out a house I am a Libra and a woman and it shows Seriously though, you guys have been soooo indespensible. It is a scary concept, moving to a city where you know no one and have never even been there (and exciting too) but this forum has made me feel like I have an "inside man" (or a whole bunch of them) and made me feel welcome and hopeful and like I know what I am doing. For that I can never thank ya;ll enough!

West Mifflin itself isn't bad, but it'll be a lot more difficult for you to get to and to get around from there (as opposed to Carnegie, which is right off the highway.) It's one of Pittsburgh's flaws that the highway system doesn't reach a lot of areas.
