Mt. Lebanon
My wife and I along with our four-year old daughter are seriously considering moving to Mt. Lebanon sometime early next year. To people who currently live there (or have lived there), I have a couple questions:
1) What's the best thing about living in Mt. Lebanon?
2) Are the schools as good as I've read? I read that the Mt. Lebanon school district is the 2nd best in the whole state of Pennsylvania.
3) Is it a nice place to grow up in?
4) Are there a fair amount of families with young children living there?
5) What's the crime situation like?
Any information on any or all of these matters would be greatly appreciated.

1. Sense of community. Very tight. Great schools, close to town.
2. Yes. SAT Scores say a lot. Some articles such as business week didn't rank us, but SAT scores I believe are best in P.A. for public schools.
3. Yes it is a very nice place to grow up in.
4. There is a large amount of young families and is growing every time somebody sells a house. Many of the houses for sale have people who lived there for 30 years. Mt Lebanon has had declining enrollment for a while, but it is picking back up.
5. Minimal crime. Sometimes Mt Lebanon is in the news for a robbery, but usually because the police catch the person. The media loves to report on any issues in Mt Lebanon.
The biggest issue you will find is finding a house. The kitchens are usually small, there are homes at $350K with no master bath, and the yards are mostly small, and sometimes nothing. Every house you will look at will need some updating and consider this in your budget. You will also not want to buy a home on a cut through street (these are much cheaper). You could have thousands of cars drive through your street every morning and night during rush hour.

Can anyone here who lives in Mt Lebo tell me some of the bad cut-through streets? I know some of the obvious ones but wanted to hear from someone who lives there.

Sorry, this is not what you want to hear, but I would never refer anyone to this area. Its a tight community alright, and if your not born here, no one will speak to you, except an occassional hello or hi, and even then its not real...Its not just my own experience here, I met many who hate it here, and the women who live in 300,000 homes think they are special, gosh I met nicer people who lived in Mansions in other parts of the country. The schools are good, and that is all bout I can say bout it. Move to Washington County, its nice there, low taxes and people are much friendlier...stay away from Mt Lebo.

I lived in Mt. Lebo back in the 80's as a single guy. Great place, nice people. I'd still be living there if it wasn't for my damn, uh, dear wife who loves the North.
People are people anywhere, expect a negative attitude, you'll get one.

Yeah and oddly enough, their first post.
I work in the Mt Lebo area, like someone else said, you carry a negative attitude, and that's what you get back.
I will say, their police force is tough. That's what makes it safe, but don't do anything an inch out of the PA drivers code, cause they'll be there to get you.

We just moved to the Mt. Lebo area and we LOVE it! We have 2 small kids and we have at least 25 kids living on our street. They have so many friends. I have met a ton of people and this is the nicest community we have ever lived in. People are way friendly here. I am so glad we moved to this area. WE are VERY happy here.
