Possible Move - Please help
I may be moving with my job to Pittsburg. What I'd like to know is what are the property taxes on homes? Also, what towns outside of Pittsburg are nice and not really expensive and have good schools.
Thanks,
Kathy

Property taxes include municipality, school, county = 4%
Wage tax is usually 1% except if you live in the city 3%
Real estate taxes are considerably lower in the surrounding counties.
What is your definition of "not really expensive?"
If you'll be more specific about what your interested in we'll be able to help you better.
Our Pittsburgh has an 'h' on the end.

More info
I guess my idea of not expensive is around $150,000 for a house. It seems like there are alot of older houses in the Pittsburg area. Would be looking for something newer than 50-60 years old. How much would taxes be on a $150,000 house.

Taxes on $150,000 can be $6,000 more or less. A lot depends on the school taxes as those are the highest.
I can only tell you about east of Pgh. Aspinwall or Oakmont are suburbs. I don't know where the newer homes are in Aspinwall. If you look at listings they may tell you. Many/most homes in Oakmont were built in the 1950s and there's a lot of much older ones too.
Aspinwall is Fox Chapel School System and a bus ride. Oakmont is Riverview system and you walk to elementary and high school. Oakmont has a lot more to offer a family or for kids because of the park by the river and a lot of organized sports. It's not rated as good a school system as Fox Chapel yet it is up there and you get a great education.

Check out the town of Beaver! (Beaver Co.) It's just 35 miles N and is an awesome and beautiful place. A great place to raise your kids... very safe and "hometown America" type of town. I can send you a link for a couple youtube videos about it if you like. It's my hometown (in FLA now) and would love to live there again Also homes there are within your range and prop taxes should be much less than in Pitt.

Washington County taxes are alot less. good school districts with 150k housing would be Cannon-Mac or Chartiers-HOuston. North Stabane township is nice and so are parts of Cannonsburg, Houston etc..

Yes, Westmoreland County is far less, too. My parent's home is appraised at roughly 165k and they pay far less than 6k a year (which was an example given).

I agree that Beaver is cute, and the shortest distance is actually 27 miles from downtown to downtown, 35 miles by the shortest drive. (Though actually, they're about the same in drive time, lol). This is per Mapquest. If you want a newer house, you won't find one there.
Beaver Falls is a little farther, and while the city is kind of diplapidated at this point in time, the burbs are nice (Patterson Hts, Patterson Twp, Chippewa, etc). Getting a little farther away though with Chippewa. Some newer houses in the area.
Beaver and Blackhawk (BF suburbs) schools are considered "good".

You are looking for a needle in a haystack. Also, graphuic artists and printers are a dime a dozen. Being from SC has nothing to do with it. People come on here and a constant complaint is that nobody ever responds to the resumes they send. Unless you have a special skill that's in high demand, even if you live here you might need to know someone to get a job.
