Anyone else think Primanti's stinks?
Is it just me or is Primanti's really overrated? Back in the 70's and early 80's I thought it was a great place. Nothing but a dive bar in the Strip that didn't open until midnight with always a mix of yuppies, bikers, truckers, and everyone else. But in the late 80's it turned into a fern/sports bar, and the food started to suck. I stopped today at the one in Cranberry, lousy, just plain lousy.
Anyone else agree, other than Humanoid?

To be honest I have to agree. We went to the one in Southside when we were down and neither I nor my hunny were very impressed. I wouldn't go so far as to say it stank, and maybe our expectations were too high form all the hype, but it was just alright. Also, the atmosphere was pretty generic. I kinda expected the big sign and bustling people and it was just a bar. Now, we were really impressed with, gosh I can't remember the name, Something Street Deli,on Murray in Squirrel Hill. We went on a Sun morning and it was bustling with all kinds of people and the food was nummy!

In the early 1980s I worked in town and ate at the one on Cherry Way and they were good then. Last year I stopped for a sandwich at the one in Harmarville. It was so bland/tasteless I thought I didn't order it properly. They are on my ignore list and I won't be recommending them to anyone new who comes to town.

Smallman Street Deli, right across from the Giant Iggle. I agree, the food there is really good!

I've never eaten at Primanti's while sober. For some reason, it just never appealed to me at any other time of day.

I dunno...I like them; but I stick to only two sandwiches....the corn beef and the cajun chicken.
Is the food "really good"?...nah, but I'm more into international food anyway. It is one-of-a-kind though...I give them that.

Vastly overrated. People hype the sandwich because it's weird, but yuck. I always take out of towners to the dirty O, and they always love it.
