He then played with The Detroit Lions in the early 50s. Donna Jean Young

actor in a 50s tv series about an airline pilot. The Vogues singing group
from Turtle Creek.
I thought it was George Blanda, but yes, he was a great one and one that I always forget when thinking of great football players from the area. The Vogues I think somebody already said. Donna Jean Young, right, and she makes me think of Patty Deutsch, may have butchered the spelling, but I can see the face and I can hear her distinct voice as I'm writing this.

Gotta admit I don't know Leon Hart, but was Ron Harper by any chance on "Sky Pilot", I used to watch that as a real little kid. I'm not that damn old!

Another famous PGH'er: Lance Parrish, catcher for the Detroit Tigers. He hails from McKeesport.

Three out of four is pretty good ExPit. George Blanda is right I
stand corrected. Maybe you're thinking of Patty Dukes! On Ron Harper I'M
not sure of the series name at all. I remember he wore a commercial
pilots uniform! Leon Hart was the most famous graduate of Turtle Creek
High. He was a lot older than me, but I used to watch him play at high
school games. He was about 6'7" in high school which wasn't common
in late 40's. I have one more for you, Joe Wambaugh - East Pittsburgh
He went to LA and wrote all those cop shows in 60's and 70's and I think
one of his movies was "The Killing Field". I grew up in East Pittsburgh, but
didn't know him. Probably was the most famous from East Pittsburgh.
I remember Donna Jean Young from swimming at Blue Dell Pool on Rt.30.
I knew Ron Harper from Turtle Creek High School, he was a few grades
ahead of me. This is a great thread, because a lot of young people
from this area aren't aware of our contribution to famous people.

Definitely, Joseph Wambaugh, a great police story novelist. In fact his father was on my grandfather's Postman's route, had to be somewhere on the East End. Got one of his books sitting on my shelves that I've been meaning to get to.

Default I believe Barbra Feldon originally is from Butler

Not sure is she been mentied . Bret Michaels from Poison (the rock group), Dick Nolan (49ers former head coach in late 1960s and through mid 1970s), and Abraham Roesling (spelling; from Saxonburg-original suspension bridge designer).

Considering some of the issues I have, that's not too bad.

One I thought of late last night was Bill Cullen, a game show host, (don't ask me which one), from the North Side.

Did anyone mention Jimmy Beaumont and "The Skyliners", and their hit song "Since I don't have you". It's a classic.

Does anyone remember the name of the hardware store in Turtle Creek in the late 1950's, early 1960's?
