Young man? I can't recall but I must owe you some money. Doing ok, Davon, helping my mom handle a newly diagnosed, quite serious illness at the time, but doin' my best as is she, just putting one foot in front of the other.
Always good to hear your voice Davon. As well as you can ever get to know someone on an anonymous forum, you do strike me as good one. Hoping you are doing well. How's that wedding shaping up, kid?
Yeah, I can recall you always referring to yourself as a old man so, I flipped it on you. LOL, I try to carry myself as a friendly young male from the Burgh. Sorry to hear about your mom I wish her the best of luck and recovers quickly. As for me the wedding plans are going good as planned thanks for asking.
...and don't forget his cousin Mikey, aka Baron Mikel Scicluna!
Although born and raised in the North Hills, where did he really come from?
Im not sure about the Baron being Bruno's cousin, but yes both are indeed from Pittsburgh. Both still live in the area. Also, Larry Whistler now better known as Larry Zybysko is from Pittsburgh. Larry Z is now basking in the Florida sun. Journeyman pitcher, Terry Mulholland most remembered as a member of the 1993 Phillies is from Union.
re: hardware store in Turtle Creek... My family moved out of T.C. in 1948. I remember two stores that might qualify, one was a hardware store and it was Whitehead or Whitehead/Wilson on Penn Ave near the high school and the other was more sporting goods or maybe all sporting goods called Esman's and they moved to Pitcairn later. And yes, Leon Hart graduated T.C. in '46 or '47 and I remember watching him play high school footbll - he lived on Kline Street in Wilkens Twp. NickVu
What no love for Rege Cordic? Are you all too old to recall "Olde Frothingslosh", the pale stale ale witha head on the bottom? Those were his fake adds.
Rege was born in Hazelwood and attended Central Catholic Highschool before beginning in radio at WWSW. He them moved on to a highly successful gig at KDKA with Cordic & Company.
In 1966 he accepted a job in LA and moved there from radio to televison
Also, I don't know if this is an urban legend or not, but my step-dad is an old timer (R.I.P.) and he told me that Lena Horne used to prostitute on the Hill back in the daaaaaay when the Hill District used to be vibrant. I've heard that from a few other old timers, other than him, too.
Lena Horne and Phyllis Hyman, two unbelievably talented, sexy women. When I was a kid I saw Lena at Heinz Hall when she opened for Tony Bennett. I knew who she was, but I was there to see Tony. Well, Lena stole the show, and my heart, so sexy at 60 it was frightening. I guess I'd heard that stuff about her on the Hill, heard a lot of versions of her connection to Pittsburgh and the Hill. My father was from the Hill, and if I recall Lena had an uncle on the Hill, Sonny Horne who from what I heard, had a pretty big book. As far as Lena walkin' Wyile or Centre I just don't know. Could be, but if so she's done a pretty good job of distancing herself from it. Don't judge me by what I did, judge me by what I'm doing.
Davon, some of the people that you mentioned on had ties to Pittsburgh through their colleges or teams many of them are NOT natives (i.e Lynn Swann) for example
