The best of Pittsburgh - HERE
How about we separate the good from the bad. Let's hear some or all of those things people like or love about Pittsburgh.
I'll go first: I love the architecture in the different neighbourhoods.
I'll have more later.

I love all the small neighborhoods that make the city a whole. When you live in a neighborhood here, it's like living in a small town, but with the conveniences and culture of a big city. It's the best of both worlds!
I also love all the amazing architecture, and the fact that Pittsburgh isn't sterile and soulless.

You said it so much better than my wee sentence.
Yes, the most important two words that strike a chord for me are sterile and soulless. So many places I've visited have been soulless even if they are bigger, brighter or have more amenities.
Pittsburgh has soul!

I agree tremendously with you both. I've only been to the city on several occasions, but just from those visits alone, along with the impressions from college friends from the Steel City, as well as my online research, I've concluded that each of your neighborhoods has its own "history" and that's reflected in the form of the pride each resident has towards his/her respective neighborhood, from Shadyside to Mount Washington to the Mexican War Streets and everywhere in between!
I wonder what sense of "soul" you get living on a cul-de-sac in Cranberry Township and being dependent upon an automobile to get everywhere, only averting your eyes from "Wisteria Lane" for the occasional "fake wave" to the neighbors in your sterile subdivision? If I wasn't so gung-ho on helping to restore the Electric City, I could totally see myself refurbishing a run-down rowhome somewhere in Pittsburgh for my home, opening up my own professional firm downtown, and then gladly walking from my front door to pharmacies, banks, restaurants, nightlife, churches, my office, etc., and throwing backyard barbecues for neighbors and chatting to passers-by.

I recently moved back to Pittsburgh after living in Washington, DC for the past ten years. By far, the best thing about Pittsburgh is the people. The people in Pittsburgh are warmer, friendlier, and more genuine than anywhere else in the country. To all the people who are posting threads complaining about how terrible Pittsburgh is -- you have truly failed to see what makes this city as special as it is.

What suliata says is most definitely true! I live in Minnesota now, and their saying about the people here is "Minnesota Nice". It pales terribly to what I call "Pittsburgh Friendly"!! The 'nice' is superficial, but anywhere I go in Pittsburgh (or wherever I find a Burgh person throughout the US), it's true friendliness--like suliata said, warm, friendly, and more genuine!

1.The hills. The hills around the downtown make a green backdrop that can be seen terminating many of the streets. They keep downtown compact and walkable. The distant hills are beautiful and rugged as well. You can be skiing, fishing, hiking etc. in them in an hour's drive from downtown.
2.The rivers. You have the often muddy Monongehela coming up from W.VA and the industry along it, mixing with the dark and usually clear Allegheny coming from the hills and farmland of NW PA forming the Ohio, which is often colored half/half until the water mixes. On the 25th floor of the building I work in you can watch mayflies float by that have hatched on the Allegheny- a tribute to the quality of the water.
3.The architecture- stately turn of the century stone buildings including Richardson's Allegheny County courthouse, and particularly the mid rise buildings along 4th ave.- making walking the city a pleasure.
