Default Any South Floridians considering Pittsburgh (or moved there already)?

I'm considering Pitt. Seems affordable without having to give up a lot of the city amenities I'm used to down here. Anyone agree?

Smile sfla

I am formerly from ne pa and now live in palm bay florida, my family is in the process of relocating to pittsburgh area, have a sister who lives about 20 min away from pittsburgh, we visited often, and decided this was the place to raise our child, very pretty city, with lots of things to do and affordable for a family. We actually are looking at places a little more north of pittsburgh do to our jobs, but close enough to go pretty often.

Hope that helps. good luck !

Default West Palm Beach to PGH

I am definately moving from my native (44 years) south florida to Pittsburgh. It is a REAL city (yes I have been there) The cost of living is 40% less (see Sperlings places rated). The housing is shockingly affordable. I can buy 5 x more property in PGH than in West Palm Beach, and it is beautiful Victorian brick buildings instead of what passes for architecture in Florida. I have seen much of Europe and North America, and PGH compares very well. I have seen enough sunshine and palm trees - so what. I need culture and a real city that I can afford to retire early in. I have done tons of research. The strangest thing about PGH is the native 'tards that hate it so much, even though they have never lived anywhere else. Ignore them. I'm sure there are many wonderful people there as well - and I think the accent is cool 'nat! South Florida is used up and its just not worth it anymore.

I moved to the Pittsburgh area (about 25 miles north of the city) from south Florida about 6 years ago. I absolutely love it here, and wouldn't go back to Florida if you paid me. The traffic is better here, the cost of living is cheaper, the people are nicer, the crime is MUCH lower, and it is not the cultural wasteland that Florida is. The only thing Florida has that western PA doesn't is good food. I miss Cuban food, and I do not like the starchy, greasy, bland eastern Eoropean style dishes that pass for cuisine up here!

I hear the Pittsburgh-area beaches aren't quite of the same caliber as Florida beaches.
