can't help but think that if people were allowed to shoot back without fear of punishment it would stop. but i am told here in california, that is a wicked thought.

I wouldn't call it wicked, though it seems a dead-end, or more a never-ending chain. In the long run we need other answers. But if you're dodging bullets in your front street, a slight exaggeration I know, I can see why you'd want to shoot back. I know Southern California very well, and other than for a few neighborhoods in and around the city of Pittsburgh, it's a different animal.

I know this is off topic, but damn, I just found out that pittsburgh already has about 42-43 murders, someone posted a chart on here, and it said that pittsburgh only had 28, the 43rd murder happened this morning in broad daylight on the north side
Man dies in North Side shooting
pittsburgh's total each year is usually between 55-60, it isn't even august yet, and it's only about 12 murders from the total of last year.

Shocking I thought it was higher. Are they counting the two waterfront murders in that and the Wilkenburg one too? The deff neighborhoods to stay far away from are the North side, Homewood, Hill District, Arlington Hts area, and Belzoover.

I'm here, once again, to defend the vast area known as the North Side. There are a couple of trouble areas. Don't write it all off and "stay far away" from it.
Your chances of not getting shot skyrocket if you're not in a gang.

What's your take on the casino, buddy? Not really talking about the financing 'cause I think it will get built sooner or later, though sorry to tell you I always thought the Lower Hill was a better location for it.
How 'bout development on the North Side in general. Will the North Side become the new South Side?

Well, I don't see North Side being capable of becoming the new South Side, since the layout is totally different. There is no equivalent of Carson Street, with 3 miles of unbroken development. I think Allegheny Center Mall should be torn down, as it was a huge mistake, as most "urban renewal" was. There has been quite a bit of development in the "North Shore" area, which used to be parking lots. So, aside from the casino and the sports stuff, I don't really see the North Side becoming an entertainment center ala the South Side, which is fine with me. It's just annoying when people write it off as a bad area, when overall it's not. Much like writing off the entire East End as a result of Homewood.
As for the casino, who knows? I'm not opposed to making money off of gambling, as I'm for legalizing all "vices" as a source of revenue. I work extremely close to the site and I'd rather see a functioning business there than an unfinished shell.

I hear ya. I'm old enough to remember when the North Side along E. Ohio and Federal, and over near the Community College was happening. You know my thing by now; I'm always looking to see Pittsburgh regain its past glory: a symptom of middle age nostalgia.
