Murder and shootings (what this thread is about) should not be taken so lightly. But, yet that is the attitude of many of this threads contributors. And to further that, that is the attitude of much of the african-american community, as another murder makes the news this morning in Sheraden. When a pattern that is present is so obvious and then there is so much apathy (oh, another fluke) what else is there to do but just go somewhere else? I'm I really suppose to take this so lightly, such as all you do, just shrug off all the gun-play, and many smaller crimes that come with it as just "life in the city". The city affords many pleasures, but do I always have to weigh that against crime & violence, worry about my family & children when they go outside?

I honestly can understand what you're you argument but, to tell me that african american ( <<which I am) communities take crimes lightly. I have two kids and I've lived in the Hill district, Homewood, Mckeesport, Braddocc, and now Homestead. I could say this is the safest I ever been. My point of even posting in this thread is to point out this could happen anywhere.
If you noticed all theses places that does have all these types of problems have major drug issues ( a crime) sooner or later it will turn into "gun play".
As I stated I agree with you one hundred % but, to say one place isn't safe because two Dummies just isn't fair. Also the investigation is still pending on the Damons restraunt. No one knows if this was in inside job going bad. As for the eat n park this was a ongoing beef between the two. The shooter possible high off drugs actually.

Yes that was a very sad incident. The girl involved should get jail time to since she aided the boys in. Pitt has similar incidents on the regular bases too. Its sad you can't goto school worrying about this.

I honestly don't know who does the rankings. I just remember that it was something they stressed to us as incoming students. To be honest, we may not be on the list anymore after the shootings.
However, I will qualify the campus shooting as, again, a fluke. That was the one major violent act on the campus in the 6 years I've been there. I will walk around that campus at any hour of the day or night and feel 100% safe. You can say it's because I place little value on my life, but some places are just generally safe. Violence can happen anywhere, but why would I live my life afraid of something that is statistically not likely to occur?

Thought about the shootings as I was at the Waterfront yesterday..I put them in perspective as random events...one between two individuals who had a beef and
the other one an unfortunate robbery attempt...My take on the Waterfront is this:
I like the Waterfront and going there to shop..but at the same time,Iam aware there are
a lot of Rosanne and Ghetto-Fab types and Fab-wannabees..rough sights down there..so
I pay attention with all sides of my eyes.."see and don't see" as in NYC..

Its not the area..its the people in it..the Waterfront is nice..but I think being next to
Homestead and other Mill depressed towns...you get rough-looking people black and
white who shop there, people who you don't want to mess with in a fight..(this is coming
from a AA person with a Cosby Show type non-ghetto background)...

I'm sorry to always be stepping in and reminding people of this, I'm sure it doesn't come off as the most politically correct or polite thing to say.
But knowing Jinxed somewhat, I think it's an appropriate reminder.
In places of high crime in Pittsburgh (actually all of crime in Pittsburgh as a whole) is OVERWHELMINGLY committed BY the black community and TO the black community. I believe over 85% of all Pittsburgh crime, last time I checked. It's really a shame. Seems like so many little pockets of Pittsburgh that share a culture and a race simply want to kill each other.
My point is that I think you have a lot less to fear than you think.

No need to be sorry this is very true. I am black and I wonder the same thing(s). Let me remind you that the black community does “just deal” with the fact that murders happen. You’re talk about the elderly that’s been living here since before the cocaine epidemic. I really try not to blame the government but, they don’t help in this department. Why would I say this? If you look around there are no places for these kids to go. No police presence around and If so they are harassing the people that are obeying the law. This is a totally different subject though.

What is strange too is that in SW Penna. the same type of crimes done by blacks in the city are done by whites in the rural areas..you seem to hear about shootings outiside a
bar in some place like Acme, Pa. or some type of domestic thing like "she was living in a
house with 42 cats"...."kids were chained in the basement a fed once a week"....what
you are dealing with is dysfunctional behaviour due to poverty..rural and urban I guess..
