Default Pittsburgh iq

An oxymoron? Nah, just a quiz of your knowledge of Pittsburgh trivia, history and landmarks. I'll start with some and we can all add more as we go. Like all good tests they should be challenging but not impossible, and let's keep them within the immediate Pittsburgh area; near suburbs are ok.

1. Who was the first Pittsburgh Kid? The second?

2. What landmark was destroyed to make way for Fifth Avenue Place?

3. When the tiered, pyramid top of the Gulf (Tower) was lit in colors, solid or blinking, what were the colors used and what weather did each predict?

4. During WWII what two cities in two different seasons did the Steelers join team ranks with?

5. What was the original name of the Mellon Bank Building?

6. Where was the first movie theater in the US and what was its name?

7. Before it was Point Park, what type of area was at the confluence?

8. Name the mob boss who summoned the Volpe brothers to the Roma Cafe on Wiley Ave in the 30's, killed them, and was subsequently found wrapped in bundle like an oriental carpet on a Brooklyn street, gagged, and his body punctured with twenty-some ice-pick wounds.

9. Name Michael Chabon's two novels set in Pittsburgh.

10. Describe the smells of steel mill emissions...

Yes, I'm sure they are tough for others since they're the ones I know off the top of my head. You're right about the Chicago Cardinals and the Philadelphia Eagles; the Steagles they were called, believe it or not.

I'm sure you could throw a couple in off the top of your head that would stump me. Got any?

very interestin but, I am far too young to know this answer.

A guess on number two would be some to do with the barometric pressure. Some also told me that it would let you know if the temp was near freezing or freezing ( blue )

I knew about the steagles threw an old man. What about the Cards?

Blue was one of the colors, yes, but it wasn't about temperature. And this is an equal opportunity thread, by age that is. Gimme.

No, not wind, something more obvious. While you're waiting to be bailed out by your co-workers, throw something in the pot. Add your own question that might stump us ancient folk.

But yeah, red was the other color.

Ha I doubt it, I am way too young to know most of that stuff, and as you can probably tell I don't live in the city either. I know a lot of sports trivia though.
