I had a coworker tell me about a turkey sighting in the West End...she was at the bus stop and 4 of them came walking up the street, like a gang. She said they were almost as tall as she was. Also, there are signs on the Duquesne Incline saying something to the effect of "look out for turkeys". I've been here over a year now, still haven't seen any. I've seen wolves, black bears, coyotes, and whales in the wild (obviously not in PA). I really want to cross turkeys off my list.

Also, there is a legendary white deer in Riverview Park. The person who told me about it hasn't seen it in a few years, so I don't know if it's still around.

There are definitely turkeys in the South Hills and West End. I went to school at Canevin (Oakwood neighborhood of the city), and we would see them run by the classroom windows sometimes. And at my parents house in Banksville we have seen turkeys in our yard quite a few times...not sure where they go when they leave because it's mostly residential and there are no woods close-by.

That Diners and Dives show on the Food Network just had a segment on a place in Blawnox that has great pierogies. Fireside or Firelight or something like that. Anyway, the making of the pierogies involves a pound of butter, which both amazed and repulsed me at the same time.
Was it called the Starlight Lounge?

Did any of you just hear on KDKA that a woman was attack by one of these mysterious wild turkeys? I didn't catch which neighborhood it was in though, sorry.

Like:

The STILL (although not as much) ethnic neighborhoods, i.e. Troy Hill, Bloomfield, Squirrel Hill, etc. And, if a neighborhood is not ethnic, there is something else unique about it: Oakland, Shadyside, Strip, South Side, North Side, etc.

Will never tire of the view of the city from Mt. Washington or driving in from the Ft. Pitt tunnels.

The Backyard Brawl, Pitt/WVU football game. Sure, there's Army/Navy, Ohio/Mich, USC/UCLA, FL/FL state; but, as the name says it all, it's a BRAWL.

Food! Try living in the south for years and their claim to food fame is barbeque! (Although there is better Asian cuisine in the south.)

*Sorry to those who like seeing the deer, they are a pain. Right now they are eating tomatoes in everyones gardens and they cause a lot of car wrecks.*

Yeah, you folks moving up from the south, and those who already have just recently, watch out for the deer, especially in the Fall and Winter months. Hunters flush them from the more remote areas and they tend to head into more populated areas, thus more car accidents involving deer

Edit: Migrators, you will more than likely meet several people who have had more than just a natural marvel encounter with deer on the roadways.

Deer were here first. I always love it when people blame the animals. I live for mountain lion attacks.

Jokes aside, my grandfather (healthy 71) died when he hit a horse with his car, but that's different. Horses are domesticated.

I did come close to hitting a deer one morning, on Brighton Road, of all places. Come to think of it, I came REALLY close to hitting a deer in the middle of the night on the turnpike while moving up here. My girlfriend was behind me in the moving van, a desk got obliterated in the ensuing sudden stop.

4. The people
5. It will always be home to me
