People look at me strangely when I'm out of the area and have to order a side of fries to put in my salad. So, I love not getting the strange looks at restaurants in the Pittsburgh region when I want fries in my salad. Oh, and I love Pittsburgh as well

I grew up in Pittsburgh...this thread makes me homesick!

Here's what I miss most about Pittsburgh:

1. real neighborhoods, each with it's own personality, not just areas with some houses thrown in

2. the slag-pile stairstep-mountains at Century III. When I was a kid, I used to imagine that I could walk up them to get to the top. I wanted to play up there on that big "mountain"

3. houses stuck onto the sides of mountains with "cellars" in them (not basements)

4. redding up when company's coming

5. all the festivals given by the churches with their AMAZING food--from all different countries and ethnicities

6. Eat n Park's chili on a cold, snowy day
7. how warm the water is in the water fountain in the very top of the cathedral of learning

8. listening for school closings on KDKA

I love Pittsburgh! I miss it! I feel lucky for having grown up there.

Love it when I go daan taan and ask for directions and still get it each and every time with reference to "by the old Kaufmann's clock" or "by the old Horne's building ...".

I love the weather here, especially when it's cloudy!

I like the golden streelights flanking the hillsides at night. These lights are most prominent in the winter months because the leaves are off of the trees and it is dark much earlier. While driving on any highway around Pittsburgh after dark, all one has to do is look across a river valley and see these lights cascading up and down hillsides and know you are home in Pittsburgh.

I never thought when I moved to Florida 17 years ago that I'd miss the cloudy weather in Pittsburgh. Now it seems like a natural luxury - imagine, being able to go out and not having to slather on the recommended full shot glass amount of the highest SPF sunblock you can buy!! I loved going to the beach year after year, but now I avoid the sun. It's too much. I'm ready to come back to those beautiful cloudy days!!
