Pittsburgh: The End of the Rainbow!
Salads with fries on top. The Casino Skeleton. The sea of black and gold Downtown on Casual Fridays. Basement toilets. Fireworks. What do YOU love about Pittsburgh that usually gets overlooked on the forums? Notice I said what do you love, not why do you think Pittsburgh is dying, or how bad the houses are, or even how much the weather "sucks". Yep, welcome, Cheerleaders. This is your place.
I love the weather here, especially when it's cloudy!

I love the grittiness and old feel of pretty much the entire city
Edit: Oh, and I do love my steak and chicken salads with fries on top as well. Whenever I visit another area of the country I have to order a side of fries. And when I start putting them on my salad people look at me all weird like.

1. Pierogies sold from beautiful churches in Carnegie, made by old women with accents.
2. People making eye contact with each other in elevators and saying hi, even if they've never seen one another before.
3. Tailgating!!!
4. Having a big party/potluck with your neighbors when a big snowfall hits and no one can drive anywhere
I used to love the weather too, but the grayness finally just got too depressing even for me.

Yeah, even with that ridiculous drink tax beers are still cheaper in this town than many other big cities I've been to

Ughh....pierogies(Homer Simpson drool) I've introduced many a people to pierogies, at first all were like, "What in the world is that?" But after one bite they've all loved em. My friend in Mississippi misses them so much. I'm making her some home made ones when she visits up here again next month.

- Seeing deer, rabbits, groundhogs, and all kinds of other wildlife in the middle of populated neighborhoods.
- Blowing the minds of my coworkers by informing them that a "gumband" is really called a rubber band in every other city besides Pittsburgh.
- Seeing a house on a huge hill, with a ridiculously steep driveway and wondering how the #@%* they drive up there in the snow.
- Jogging through an old railroad tunnel on the Montour Trail.
- You can drive in a crowded, populated area, make a turn a mile down the street and it feels like you just went onto a rural mountain road in the middle of nowhere.
- Being able to communicate with everyone I meet without having to learn Spanish! (yes, I moved up here from Florida)
- SNOW!!!!!! Never saw that down in FL.

I have to second the deer, rabbits and groundhogs. I can count on seeing at least one deer whenever I venture into Riverview Park, and I usually see several. I've seen them on my street before too, in the morning. I have a groundhog that lives in my backyard. I've also read reports of coyotes in Riverview, but that was on this forum, so it's probably not true. I've yet to see the fabled wild turkeys of Pittsburgh, though.
Edit- People are moving here from Florida and HOUSTON, even?!? What's next, Atlanta? Funny, I thought Pittsburgh had one foot in the grave. Never mind the fact that Forbes just listed it as one of the top ten up and coming tech cities. At least with the *****y weather, it'll never be part of the Sun Belt!

Pierogies...I need 'em. Where do you guys suggest I go. It would help if someone knows a place up my way (West View) but I'll go anywhere for the best!
