Increasing property taxes or passing the 10% drink tax is unfair to either people who own property or people who drink in Allegheny County.
How about a 10% tax increase on all Primantis sandwiches? 10% tax increase on Steelers' tickets? 10% increase on admission to museums? Where does the selectivity end?
If you want the tax burden fairly distributed, pass a general tax increase on all goods or services sold within Allegheny County. This way, neither property owners nor people who consume are unfairly singled out with handling the public transportation deficit.

If you want to talk about alternative means of funding, that's a whole different debate. From a politician's view point which is more likely to upset the voters: Raising property taxes for all, or taxing the sale of an item purchased by some?

a 10% reduction in all the county politicians salary
is a good solution
my question is why should all our property tax go up or more tax on drinks to fund port authority.
i dont ride the bus therefore i should not pay for the bus
i dont see a 10% " put gas in or tires on brian's car tax " now is there?
any way i guess a drink tax is better than property tax
cause i can allways quit drinking
im not about to sell my house

Neither. They need to learn how to manage a budget a reduce wasteful spending. Also be more pro-active in pursuing delinquent taxes.
They said it was only for poured drinks...but this is not true. Just another example of them telling us whatever they want to tell us.

As an aside, the reason general subsidies for public transit make sense is that the riders are not the only beneficiaries of public transit. Public transit also benefits employers and retailers, reduces congestion on highways, reduces competition for parking spots and gasoline, and so on.
Anyway, like many I would prefer a different option entirely (a progressive income tax). But between these two options, I am fine with the drink tax.
