I would have thought that E. Tenn. would have a good bit of seasonal change. I live in CA, LA area, and I moved here in 1977, because my husband spent the majority of his life in CA and at the time didn't want to live anywhere else. I was young then and really didn't have much family in the area. Now it seems like he's open to living in the east, but it's likely that we probably won't move. Housing is really more expensive out here, but other things are about the same. I know that property taxes are high in PA. Housing prices are falling in CA, but they have a long way to go and rents are still very high on the whole. I hope that you and your husband can secure jobs in Pittsburgh if you need them.

The past few years our autumns haven't been colorful. It's been hot up into the fall months. And the humidity in the summer is horrible. It's like our Springs and Falls are not as extreme as they used to be. But compared to other places it might be nice. I haven't been anywhere else to compare it!
We will definitely have to find jobs, but I'm not too worried about it. I'm not picky about what I do. I have been a factory worker for 9 years. I just want a secure job that pays the bills. I don't live lavishly or need a lot. The problem is that here in my hometown, jobs are moving at a high rate. A lot of them are going to Mexico (my job included in the next year or two), or the parent plants are shutting them down. Greeneville is not a good place to get and secure a job right now. Closer to Knoxville there would probably be more work, I'm not sure. We are an hour and a half from there. Unemployment is pretty high here.

We don't have much of that anymore either. Global warming, maybe?

I can relate. We are actually in the Chattanooga area (possibly relocating to PGH in about 2 months). And yeah- there isnt really winter or fall anymore (though the temps this past wknd really haven't been that bad).

It's very pleasant this weekend in Greene County, too. Sunshine and mild temps. These are few and far between!

You may have trouble securing a manufacturing type job. Most of the job growth in Pittsburgh in recent years has been in scientific and medical jobs, IT etc. for which you need a specialized education. I suppose you can always waitress or work in retail if you have to. What type of work does your husband do?

We both are currently working in factories, but he has done a little bit of everything. Neither of us have more than a high school education. I have a hard time believing that waitressing and retail are my only options. I have worked in retail before and I liked it.
I have looked up help-wanted ads on the internet for the Pittsburgh area and have come across some assembly job openings.
I guess I'll just find out when I get there.

There is still plenty of light and medium industry type jobs in the Pittsburgh region, despite it not being our number 1 employer any longer.

I didn't mean to say that these were your only options, but they were the first that came to mind. Since I don't live in Pgh., I don't really know what assembly jobs there are there. There could be more than I think. Good luck to you both.
