I grew up in Mt. Lebanon, which is right next to Bethel Park. BP is a nice area with good schools. It is a large township and there are very nice neighborhoods in parts and some that aren't (like most townships). The housing is more affordable and probably has lower taxes than Mt. Lebanon or Upper St. Clair. Pittsburgh is about a 25 minute drive and there are plenty of shopping areas nearby. I would say visit the South Hills area of Pittsburgh to get a feel of these townships. Good Luck!

'Probably your best bang for the buck in terms of school quality vs. taxes. There are some schools that are said to be better (Upper St. Clair, Mt.Lebanon) but only marginally , and the taxes are significantly less than in those places. Its a solidly middle class community with not a lot of deviation from the median income up or down. It also has a lot of retail with the mall, supermarket, and several restaurants.
